Empowerment as a biographical impact in feminist activism.: The case of study of the performance «A Rapist in Your Path» in Mexico City

Abstract

Empowerment is considered one of the biographical impacts of activism. In this article we will analyze the process of empowerment experienced by the women who participated in three performances of “A rapist in your path” in Mexico City in 2019. Based on the sociocultural approach of emotions and literature on emotions and protest, we will analyze how moral emotions such as anger, indignation and moral hope promote the empowerment process. This process manifests itself, among other things, in a change in their interpersonal relationships, in an emotional release, the redefinition of themselves, the awareness of their body as a political territory, and the expansion of empathy towards other social injustices.
