Jóvenes y viejos: ¿el cuerpo como locus de identidad?

Abstract

This text discusses the importance of the body as locus of identity of two different age cohorts: the young and the old. For that purpose, it takes account of Baudrillard's ideas about the lack of depth of the body and its conversion into sham. Also, it takes to account the results of a qualitative empirical research conducted in the city of Lima in 2006 from in‐depth interviews to 36 men and women of various social classes and ages. We concluded that the experience of the body as a locus of identity varies according to the age group and gender. So we relativized Baudrillard postulates.
