The narratives of "the female pioneers". Gender and morality in the development of modern dance in Argentina (1940‐1960).

Abstract

Based on a variety of textual material, the paper proposes to analyze the discourse of female dancers and choreographers of modern dance and their participation in the Argentinean artistic scene during the 1940s and 1950s.  The study of morality related to the discourse on the moving body and the body on stage, as it appears in the narratives of "the female pioneers", reports of the emergence of alternative models of femininity to those of female classical dancers and traditional western women. The essay seeks to address, from an anthropological approach, the study of these processes, exploring the ways in which people build their choices in certain contexts and framework of ideas, feelings and beliefs.
