Abstract

Conceptions on disability are developed from two main oposite models: the medical one and the social one. The first one defines the body as a fisiological substrate which must be subjected to rehabilitation practices, while the second one simply avoids it, allowing these practices to be continued. Thus, disability implies an absent body, because it is reduced to a mere inert matter, thing-body, or not considered al all. The possibility of a emancipatory transformation for disabled people goes through a body reapropiation, understanding it as a social existence sediment. Also, a new policy of body is needed.
